The Demonic Inquisition is the second boss in the Tomb of Sargeras.
Anticipating the arrival of mortal forces invading the Tomb of Sargeras, Kil'jaeden has called on his best captors, Atrigan and Belac, to lock down the interlopers and prevent them from using the Pillars to advance deeper into the dungeon.
The Demonic Inquisition is a single-phase encounter featuring 2 bosses that engage the raid together. During the encounter, any damage taken from either boss' abilities will increase the player's Torment levels. Upon reaching maximum Torment (100), they must Confess to remove a crippling debuff and be transported into a prison area. This constitutes a pseudo-phase of its own, where the jailed players must survive while collecting enough Remnants of Hope to escape the cage. The two bosses share health, allowing classes with efficient cleave (such as Destruction Warlocks) to shine brightly.
4. TL;DR4.1. Tanks
- Coordinate your Torment level with the other tank to ensure both of you do not Confess at the same time. Atrigan's attacks will apply 2 Torment via Bone Scythe, and therefore the Atrigan tank should be the first to Confess (alternating thereafter).
- Kite the boss during Bone Saw and avoid attacking to minimize damage taken and Torment gain.
- Keep Atrigan faced away from the group as he will periodically cleave the space in front of him with Scythe Sweep.
- Tank the Tormented Soul when you Confess and are sent to Belac's prison.
- Be sure to delay the dispelling of Echoing Anguish, giving them time to get out of the group so that the least amount of people are hit by Anguished Outburst.
- Avoid attacking Atrigan during Bone Saw and Belac during Fel Squall to bypass generating additional Torment.
- Melee should stay out of Bone Saw to avoid taking heavy damage.
- Interrupt Belac's casts of Pangs of Guilt.
- Avoid Bone Saw and Fel Squall.
- Confess when you reach maximum Torment (100)to avoid the Unbearable Torment debuff. Torment has no effect until reaching 100 and is acquired when taking damage from either bosses abilities.
- Collect as many Remnants of Hope as possible and avoid the Tormented Eruptions when you are in Belac's prison after Confessing.
5. Bloodlust/Heroism/Time Warp
We advise you to use Bloodlust/ Heroism/ Time Warp at the pull. The entire raid will be at 0 Torment, ensuring the entire group gets maximum benefit (as no one will have their Bloodlust interrupted by Confess). The bosses will also not be casting Bone Saw and Fel Squall for some time, allowing the raid to cleave at maximum efficiency.
The fight against the Demonic Inquisition has fairly static positioning for most of the raid members. The tanks will want to start the fight by tanking the two bosses where they stand. The melee should pick one boss to start on; any melee receiving the Suffocating Dark or Echoing Anguish debuffs can spread 8 yards and swap to the other boss.
The ranged and healers should form a loose spread throughout the entrance of the room. Whenever Echoing Anguish is applied, the afflicted players should be sure to move a minimum of 8 yards away from any nearby group members before calling for a dispel. The better the spread, the less time healers will have to wait before dispelling, which results in less damage taken, less movement, and higher raid DPS. Suffocating Darkzones will also be less disruptive when positioning is this fashion.
Players should time their Confess casts with the Atrigan tank, as they will likely be the first person to reach full Torment. It is important that the raid is careful that not too many people hit maximum Torment simultaneously, as this will result in few players remaining outside and possibly cause a raid wipe. Balancing the Torment levels so only about half the group will go down and clear their Torment is ideal. This can be done by having players assigned to soak some additional Torment in order to create a favourable timing with the Atrigan tank. Once players reach maximum Torment they should immediately cast Confess and be sent to Belac's prison.
When in Belac's prison, the tank should immediately take threat on the Tormented Soul. All players should ensure they are continuously dodging the Tormented Eruptions spawning throughout the room while they damage the Tormented Soul. Players should constantly pick up the Remnants of Hope that spawn around the area, with more important players being prioritized first (such as ranged DPS with effective cleave). If the other tank is high on Torment, the tank inside the prison will have to leave early to pick up the bosses. It is important the healer(s) are some of last people to leave the prison, as the Tormented Soul does melee for moderate Physical damage.
During Bone Saw and Fel Squall all players should avoid attacking the respective boss unless they are intentionally trying to generate additional Torment. A good reason for doing this is to line up with the tank's Torment levels, allowing one group to line up their Confess timing with the tank and enter the prison at the same time.
2. Tank Concerns
There are no active taunt swaps on this fight, however, the Atrigan tank will always be sent into Belac's prison first. This will force the Belac tank to pick up threat on Atrigan, establishing an alternating order of which tank is in the prison. When the first tank comes out from the prison they should taunt Belac; essentially, the tank that is higher on Torment should always tank Atrigan. This ensures that you avoid a situation where both tanks reach maximum Torment simultaneously.
Atrigan should always be kept facing away from the group due to his Scythe Sweep. During Bone Saw, the active tank should kite, which is very easy to execute as the boss will move 75% slower during this time.
During Fel Squall, Belac will be immobile, allowing the current tank to get out of range with ease.
3. Healing Concerns
Most of the damage in the fight is avoidable, so most of the healing concerns are about healing avoidable damage that was not avoided. The main concern apart from that is correctly dealing with Echoing Anguish. The afflicted players must be given time to get away from the group before they are dispelled, or it will cause a bunch of extra damage and Torment to the raid.
Pay special attention to:
- the Suffocating Dark zones that spawn on players, as they will take damage for a few seconds before they can escape;
- anyone caught by Calcified Quills, as they may be comboed by other abilities while they are knocked in the air.
Healers should also be among the last people to leave Belac's prison when possible, as it may cause any remaining DPS to be killed if they are left without a healer.
4. Bloodlust/Heroism/Time Warp
We advise you to use Bloodlust/ Heroism/ Time Warp at the pull. The entire raid will be at 0 Torment, ensuring the entire group gets maximum benefit as no one will have their lust interrupted by Confessing. The bosses will also not be casting Bone Saw and Fel Squall for some time, allowing the raid to cleave at maximum efficiency.
The Demonic Inquisition is a single phase encounter featuring 2 bosses that engage the raid together. Each boss has a separate set of abilities, though the 2 of them share health. Taking damage from any ability will increase the player's Torment levels; reaching maximum Torment will allow players to Confess and deal with a sub-phase of the fight.
Torment is a resource bar that fills up as you take damage from Atrigan and Belac's abilities. Torment has no effect until you reach maximum Torment, and the maximum amount of Torment is 100.
2.1. Unbearable Torment
Upon reaching maximum Torment, you will be afflicted with the Unbearable Torment debuff. This increases damage taken by 90%, reduces healing by 25%, reduces chance to hit by 90%, and reduces damage done by 20%. This debuff can only be removed by casting Confess.
Confess can be cast by using the Extra Action Button when you reach maximum Torment. This will clear the Unbearable Torment debuff and transport you to Belac's prison. Confess can only be cast at maximum Torment.
2.3. Belac's Prison
Belac's prison is a small circular room, separate and inaccessible from the rest of the encounter except by use of Confess. It is inhabited by the Tormented Soul, an add which has an extremely high amount of health and melees the target with the highest threat. Tormented Eruptions will spawn periodically from the trapped players, which deal damage after a short delay to anyone within 3 yards.
2.3.1. Remnants of Hope
Damaging the Tormented Soul will cause it to periodically release Remnants of Hope. They materialize as small purple orbs; running through them will cause them to be consumed and remove some of your Torment. When you reach 0 Torment, you will be transported out of Belac's torment.
3.1. Pangs of Guilt
Pangs of Guilt is an interruptible cast that deals heavy Shadow damage to several enemies.
3.2. Echoing Anguish
Echoing Anguish is a debuff applied to several players at random, dealing moderate ticking Shadow damage every second and generating additional Torment over 12 seconds. Dispelling this effect triggers an Anguished Outburst.
3.2.1. Anguished Outburst
3.3. Suffocating Dark
Suffocating Dark is a zone of darkness cast on random players, inflicting moderate Shadow damage and generating Torment every second, for 8 seconds. It also degenerates movement speed by 50% for the duration of the effect. It can be avoided by simply walking out of it.
3.4. Tormenting Burst
3.5. Fel Sqall
Fel Squall deals heavy Fire damage and generates 4 Torment every second to anyone nearby, and channels for 5.2 seconds. Attacking the boss during this time will also generate additional Torment.
4.1. Bone Scythe
4.2. Scythe Sweep
Atrigan will periodically cleave the area in front of him with Scythe Sweep, inflicting moderate Physical damage and adding 20 Torment to anyone hit. This cannot be avoided by the current target.
4.3. Calcified Quills
Calcified Quills causes a cone of spikes to emerge from the ground towards a player in a cone. Anyone hit by the spikes will take heavy Physical damage and be knocked into the air. This ability can be avoided.
4.4. Bone Saw
Bone Saw will cause Atrigan will spin in a whirlwind, dealing heavy Physical damage to nearby enemies every 1 second and generating additional levels of Torment. Attacking the boss during this time will also generate additional Torment.
Our Raid Notes:
We're going to tank them at first on PURPLE during bloodlust (on Belac) for cleave and during downtime between Bonesaw/Fel Squall. Tanks do not stack up but instead have the bosses kind of have their backs on each other. Melee should never be in front of Atrigan. Range and Healers will be behind boss and loosely spread out.
Tank with Atrigan must move him away during Bone Saw or Fel Squall.
Isra will start on Atrigan and be the first to Confess. Yo-yo on Belac and will confess after Isra. Outside Tank needs to taunt the other boss immediately. When tank is coming back from the cage, if the tank is not going into the cage immediately, other tank is on Belac. Higher Torment tank always has Atrigan. Outside Tank should say when they are 80 Torment.
Cage Tank and a rotating healer between Mistyezz & Kooky will remain in the cage with the add. High-Torment DPS or Other Healers will enter the cage and DPS the add while picking up the orbs to drop their torment. When Outside Tank is Near and he says he's around 80 torment or the Cage Tank/Healer has 6 stacks of the debuff, DPS/Healers will stop coming into the cage, Cage Tank and Cage Healer will mention they have high stacks and then pick up orbs and leave the cage. Outside Tank will then go into the cage, and the other Cage Healer will go in allowing DPS/Other Healers to continue dropping their Torment. If you're not part of the rotating cage healers, you should just leave the cage immediately.
ALL Melee will start on Atrigan, and move towards Belac when they get debuffed.
Delay the dispel on Echoing Anguish so they have time to move out.
Do not attack Atrigan during Bone Saw and do not attack Belac during Fel Squall. Tank should kite Bone Saw and move him away from Belac..
Interrupt Pangs of Guilt. George -> Krel -> Ugly -> Assblade. Novene and Morlock back up.
